BACKGROUND:
The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the leading national voice for dignity and fairness for domestic workers in the United States. Founded in 2007, NDWA works for the respect, recognition, and inclusion in labor protections of domestic and home care workers across the country. NDWA is winning improved working conditions while building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity and equality of domestic workers, home care workers, immigrant women, and Black women.
Care in Action, a nonprofit, nonpartisan group dedicated to fighting for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women of color and immigrant women.
Position Summary:
Care in Action and the National Domestic Workers Alliance seek a State Director in Arizona to build a strong statewide program. The State Director will supervise the day-to-day operations of our integrated state-based strategy, direct advocacy, basebuilding, and civic engagement work, leading one of the most important projects in our organizations. They will manage the hiring and coordination of staff, oversee state budget, and coordinate with coordination tables and partners.
Working in close coordination with our state and national staff, the State Director will lead our strategic electoral organizing model, serve as chief architect of our state-based organizing work, and oversee early investment in the presidential election cycle.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create a powerful electoral organizing operation, including volunteer and paid voter contact, focused on activating and mobilizing women of color and domestic workers.
Lead experimentation and innovation work around electoral organizing, and analyze and report on results.
Oversee and implement a targeted voter registration campaign focused on voters of color.
Monitor the legislative session and current political landscape. Lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives, legislative campaigns/caucus, and care legislation.
Work closely with designated local domestic worker committee, and national staff for the endorsement process. Support the candidate endorsement process by identifying, vetting, and supporting prospective candidates.
Serve as a representative at appropriate meetings and tables, coordinating closely with our partners across the state.
Set strategic goals for the state, support and shape the message of statewide and national campaigns, including serving as organizational spokesperson, with the support of communications staff.
Cultivate interdepartmental relationships with the data and communication department to accurately amplify brand in all events and campaigns.
Provide staff management, oversight, and support to the state team, hiring relevant staff, consultants, and vendors and managing them to excellence in a positive work environment.
Attend, and actively participate in team meetings, lead state working groups, and weekly 1:1’s with supervisor.
Participate in and conduct statewide and individual evaluations, budgets, and reports by required deadlines in partnership with the operations and finance team.
Maintain compliance in accordance with state, federal, and organizational policies with the support of operations and legal teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:
3-4 cycles of electoral campaign experience with increasing responsibility;
Expertise in electoral voter contact, including paid canvass, voter registration, volunteer management, and phone banking; familiarity and use of voter activation network, and various voter outreach platforms;
4+ years of supervisory experience, including hiring and managing team members.
Deep knowledge of political organizing, policy, and local politics.
Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice;
Belief in the leadership and political power of women of color, commitment to support organizing and civic engagement, including following the leadership of Black women;
Ability to forge strong relationships with relevant partners, elected officials, groups, and leaders across the state;
Willingness to work long and unusual hours, including nights and weekends;
Willingness to travel is required, and reliable access to a vehicle and internet is needed in order to attend virtual or in-person events and meetings across the state;
Strong external and internal communication, understanding of messaging, and communication for electoral campaigns. Relationships with relevant media are a bonus;
Work with the national NDWA staff and attorneys to meet all legal and ethical requirements of a political organization;
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess threats and recommend actionable solutions;
Relentless drive, tenacity, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to advance our mission and values;
Attention to detail and the ability to manage the technical aspects of a project such as paperwork, deadlines, etc.;
Ability to work effectively with strong personalities, peers, public officials, and allies.
Experience running data-driven, digital-first campaigns is strongly preferred; and
Proficiency in any of the following languages is considered a major plus: Spanish, Navajo, Vietnamese, Korean, or French.
